Steve Holt
Ripping Since 1973
The 70's Scene and The Sims Team
Steve Holt grew up surfing/skating in Oxnard CA during the
70's, skating such places as The Endless Wave, the legendary
JungleLand,
Skippers pool, El Rio pool, Ojai Pool, and on and on. His early skate
influences include Lonnie Toft, Gordy Lienemann, Steve Monahan and all the
local Sims Team Riders.
In 1978 Holt was himself asked to join the Sims team, a high point for Steve
who got to team up with fellow locals Jack Waterman, Tom Fain and Bill Barker
to shred it up for Sims.
Eight Wheeled Insanity
Holt's fascination with the eight-wheeled skateboard began at The Endless Wave,
were "Lonnie frequented a lot, giving us the opportunity to skate a lot
of his creations and where I got the stoke on riding 8 wheelers".
During the dry years of the 80's and 90's when skateboarding died, Steve
continued to survive on homemade 8's, a surplus of Barfoot Concave decks,
(Thanks Chuck) Ramps, Ditches and was always on the hunt for empty
Pools.
In the mid 1980's Holt relocated to Northern Ca. for a career as a fireman
in the Bay Area, an occupation he continues in today. Sometime in 1999 he met
Ed Isaacs who "built me one of his custom 8 Ball 8 wheeler decks
(thanks Ed) and I was back into the 8's full throttle". Shortly
thereafter, Steve found out Wes and Rich had started up BDS and "I
started riding the best boards and wheels I've ever skated on, from the best
company I've ever been around.. Bulldog Skates"!
In 2004 Holt began testing the new prototype 8 Wheeler from Wes Humpston and
Bulldog Skates, a deck he now considers to be "the most advanced 8
wheeled deck ever made". Steve was recently featured in the latest
BullDog Skates add for the Eight Wheeler, taking it 7 wheels out at Ripon!
Holt is now considered to be one of the premier eight-wheeled skaters in the
country and is the only known skater to have taken the mighty eight to the
Baldy Pipeline (as of Sept 2004)!
Keeping it Alive
Moving into 2005, Steve continues to shred it up for Bulldog Skates,
continues to look for new sacred ground to skate (ditches, pools, full pipes)
but most importantly, continues to have a great time on a deck! ..
"It's been 31 some odd years and I still get the same rush, either on 4
wheels or 8 wheels, that I did the first time I went up a wall. What can I say?
I love it!!! "
And what does Steve say about the Bulldog Skates he is riding today?
"Continuous progression and innovation without compromise for detail...
Wes and Rich not only put in the tireless effort to put out superior equipment,
but they go the extra mile and work with the suggestions and ideas from the
skaters on the BDS forum, and go out of their way to take care of the BDS
Family!".
Steve also wanted to thank a few folks.. "Denise and Katie, Chris
Olden, The Jungleland Tribe and The Entire BDS Familia!!!!"
Keep ripping it up Steve!
